I’m so excited to be able to do a review for Eerie, by C.M. McCoy today. And not only do I get to review it, but thanks to Omnific Publishing, I get to give it away to 2 lucky winners! And if that isn’t enough, there will be a rafflecopter giveaway for a $50 Amazon gift card! But before we get into all that, if you aren’t excited about the release of Eerie yet, you will be by the time I’m done with you.

Eerie

Summary

Being a ParaScience freshman is a nightmare come true

Hailey’s dreams have always been, well…vivid. As in monsters from her nightmares follow her into her waking life vivid. When her big sister goes missing, eighteen-year-old Hailey finds the only thing keeping her safe from a murderous 3,000-year old beast is an equally terrifying creature who’s fallen “madly” in love with her. Competing to win her affection, the Dream Creature, Asher, lures her to the one place that offers safety—a ParaScience university in Alaska he calls home. There, she studies the science of the supernatural and must learn to live with a roommate from Hell, survive a tunneling earworm, extract a carnivorous splinter, evade the campus poltergeists, and hope the only creature who can save her from an evil immortal doesn’t decide to kill her himself.

C.M. McCoy

About the Author
C.M. McCoy is an Irish dancer and former Air Force officer living in the Great White North. Though B.S.’d in Chemical Engineering and German, she’s far happier writing stories involving Alaska and a body bag (with an awkward kiss in the mix.) While working emergency dispatch for Alaska State Troopers, she learned to speak in 10-codes, which she still does…but only to annoy her family. Not only this, but she is one of the kindest and most interesting person I have never met (unless social media counts). Seriously, she’s awesome. Click HERE to read an interview I did with her.

Review

Eerie is a very unique book. If you like Irish dancing, murder, out-cast banshees, albino ghosts that pop out of mirrors, murderous staplers, yetis, sexy guys, scary guys, and soul-wrenching drama (literally)…this is the book for you.

I was hooked from the first page. McCoy has such an awesome way with words…a way that made me like her main character, Hailey, immediately. I loved the relationship she had with her sister, Holly, as well as the rest of her Irish family. It was real and genuine. And then it just kept getting better and better! I really enjoyed that there was a change of scenery when Hailey was whisked away to Bear Towne University. It kept the story fresh, and pushed it forward in crazy-awesome ways–ways that you just can’t make work in Pittsburgh.

The only thing I struggled with was the very dysfunctional love triangle that Hailey had going on. (Though there are reasons why it is dysfunctional. It isn’t dysfunctional for the sake of adding drama, though it certainly does that.) Hailey bounced back and forth between guys so fast, I may have gotten whip lash. It would have helped me out if she had taken sides a little more, gave me someone to root for. But then where would be the fun in that?

And can I just say, the ending was AWESOME. I finished the last chapter and it left me wanting to grab the next book in the series…only then I realized I have to wait who knows how long until the next one is out, considering Eerie was released just this last week. TORTURE.

Overall, I give Eerie 5 out of 5 Stars

Content (0 being none and 5 being A LOT)

Language: 2 An occasional swear word littered throughout, but nothing major.

Violence: 3 Some dismemberment/blood/gore, as well as a few fight scenes throughout the book. A couple wrenching of souls (not a figure of speech)

Sexual: 2 An occasional Innuendo/reference to sex; some passionate/steamy kissing–no sex
