About the Author:
Gabrielle Zevin is the author of eight novels, including Elsewhere and most recently,The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, which is a New York Times Best Seller.
As you may have noticed, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry was released about two years ago. And is a New York Times Bestseller. And when Natalie Hansen requested I review it, I had never even heard of it. Embarrassing, I know.
But I have to say, I LOVED it. If you are looking for something super action packed, this isn’t your book. It takes place in a quaint, small, touristy town, and the novel matches the pace. Frankly, it was a relief to take a break from all the thrillers and get to know characters that were deep, and meant something to me.
I love the character of A.J. Fikry. He’s alone, and sad, and a bit of a book snob. But he’s REAL. And when he finds a toddler that has been left at the bookstore with a note, he doesn’t pawn her off on someone else. He takes her in, and thus, his whole life is changed. He learns how to love again. He remembers what it’s like to care for someone other than himself. And the transition is beautiful.
I highly recommend reading The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry and give it 5 out of 5 stars. If you have already read it, please leave a comment letting me know how you liked it!
Content (0 being none and 5 being A LOT):
Some swearing scattered throughout the book. It wasn’t excessive, but there were several uses of the F-word.
An occasional reference to sex
