Interview: Victoria Scott

Violet Grenade CoverI haven’t posted any interviews for a bit, so I am thrilled to be talking with author, Victoria Scott today. I just read her upcoming release, Violet Grenade, and it was totally insane! (in a crazy, good way of course)

SYNOPSIS

DOMINO: A girl with blue hair and a demon in her mind.

CAIN: A stone giant on the brink of exploding.

MADAM KARINA: A woman who demands obedience.

WILSON: The one who will destroy them all.

When Madam Karina discovers Domino in an alleyway, she offers her a position inside her home for entertainers in secluded West Texas. Left with few alternatives and an agenda of her own, Domino accepts. It isn’t long before she is fighting her way up the ranks to gain the madam’s approval. But after suffering weeks of bullying and unearthing the madam’s secrets, Domino decides to leave. It’ll be harder than she thinks, though, because the madam doesn’t like to lose inventory. But then, Madam Karina doesn’t know about the person living inside Domino’s mind.

Madam Karina doesn’t know about Wilson.

Q: Hey Victoria, I’m so happy to have you here today! To begin with, can you tell me a little bit about your background before you became a published author?

Hi! I have a master’s degree in marketing, and worked in advertising for a number of years before writing my first book. I still love to dip back into that world when I have the time. I’m reading a book now about the Kim Kardashian Effect, and how marketers can use her success as a branding guide. It’s fascinating.

Q: Have you always known you wanted to be an author? If not, when did you begin writing, and why?

Absolutely not! I started writing when the Great Recession hit. Much of my company was laid off, myself included, and I was given the opportunity to take a sabbatical of sorts. My husband asked me what I would do if I could do anything. My answer: Read. I chose the next closest field, and gave it a shot.

Q: I just read your upcoming release, Violet Grenade and could not put it down. What inspired you to write it?

Oh, I’m thrilled to hear that! I think I was inspired by the idea of Domino herself. Of someone being a real threat to those around here, but no one suspects her of being anything other than the perfect victim. A real wolf in sheep’s clothing, if you will.

Q: When you aren’t writing, what do you like to do to relax or have fun?Victoria Scott Author Photo

I love going into the city—Philly or NYC—to either clothes shop, or to enjoy a meal at a great new place. I also like interior design, so I often work on decorating my home on the weekends. Right now I’m getting excited about BEA, because I’ll be taking my first longer-distance train ride to get there!

Q: Do you have any advice for those wanting to break into the publishing world themselves?

Don’t. Give. Up. Expect rejection. Embrace it. Push past it. Keep playing with different story ideas. Become a master at your craft, and forget the noise.

Q: Where can we learn more about you, your work and any upcoming releases?

The best place to find me is Instagram.com/realvictoriascott. Or on my website at VictoriaScott.com.
